We’d like to meet you!

As part of our 10 Year Anniversary celebrations, SWESA is excited to launch the “Hello Neighbour – We’d like to meet you!” This project will support social participation and inclusion of all older adults in our community – and promote volunteerism. Broader engagement will be part of  shaping SWESA for the next 10 years.

The funding has come from the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program, a federal grants and contribution program whose goal is to support projects that help improve the well-being of seniors and foster social inclusion and engagement in their communities.

The grant will be used to host a variety of events from June – October to engage older adults 55+ and create a stronger and more connected community of older adults. Some of the events include:

Date To Be Announced (Rescheduling Due To Bad Weather)

SWESA will be at the Community Tent at the SouthWest Edmonton Farmers Market from 4:00 – 7:30 pm. Come say hello to some of our volunteers, learn more about what SWESA has to offer, and some of the events we will be hosting under our “Hello Neighbour” Project!

July 27 – “Seniors on the Go” Trip to Taste of Edmonton.

Are you nervous about taking public transportation in Edmonton? Not sure how to navigate or use public transit? Recently stopped driving and wondering how to get around? Join us on Wednesday, July 27 for an information session from ETS to feel more comfortable and informed about taking public transit. We will then hop on a charter bus that will take us down to the Taste of Edmonton. Enjoy a couple hours downtown where you can say hi to our volunteers helping at Taste of Edmonton, enjoy some food, or relax. We will all travel back together on the bus. Pick up and return location will be at Yellowbird East Community Centre. Transportation is FREE; food tickets can be purchased at Taste of Edmonton. Limited seating; can accommodate those with mobility aids. Registration opens July 4.
